Notes from the weekend:
- That was a great game between LSU and Alabama. The 9-6 affair last year could have used some offense–I don’t care how great SEC defenses are. No. That wasn’t a good game. It was a snoozefest. I don’t want to pretend like I like games with no touchdowns just because that’s what cool college football fans like. And the championship game was a bit one-sided. As a fan with no rooting interest in any particular SEC team, I just like to see good, close games with a few explosions here and there. Saturday’s game was exactly that.
- Texas looked like the Texas us Texas fans wanted to see from Texas this year. Mack Brown looked like he’d just won the national championship…but I say: go ahead and celebrate, if you’re gonna get wins like that each week.
- I just have to see Oregon’s offense against Alabama’s defense this year. But I also want to see K State play for the national championship. But I also want Texas to beat K State on December 1. And it looks like Notre Dame, however deserving, will get in the way of 2 of those 3 things. Look at their schedule the rest of the way.
Here are this week’s top 30:
Alabama looked good, and made a huge leap. Here were the biggest gainers during Week 10:
And here’s the 8-team playoff, if the season ended today:
#8 @ #1: Louisville (10) @ Notre Dame (1)
#7 @ #2: Oregon State (7) @ Alabama (2)
#6 @ #3: Oregon (6) @ Ohio State (4)
#5 @ #4: Florida (3) @Kansas State (5)
So it looks like Florida is in and Georgia (8) is out. BUT, if Georgia beats Auburn this week, they’ll have the same conference record as Florida, and they will have beaten them head-to-head, sending GA to the SEC championship against Alabama, and giving them control of their own outcome. It could turn out that we have a one-loss SEC champion Georgia (or Florida) and a one-loss non-champ Alabama. It will be interesting to see how that plays out.
In the Big 12, K State has to win 2 of 3 to clinch the conference championship. Florida State or Clemson could sneak in from the ACC. And it looks like it’s wide open in the Pac 12.
