Graduation

Yesterday, I attended my first graduation as a faculty member, and it was the most I have ever enjoyed a graduation ceremony. It was wonderful to see so many of my students being celebrated. On my way out,
as I passed a student who was in my Comm and Sport class, I asked: “What do you think of all this?”

His response: “We’re in a major league soccer stadium on an NCAA campus, and we just had a military-themed speech from Leon Panetta about what our values should be. This is definitely a spectacle.”

I have never been so proud.

Lots of questions from other faculty about the Texas doctoral robe. I better get used to it. I sat with Fr. Paul Soukup, wearing the old Texas robe, that he described as fit to direct traffic.

I think graduations are better on this side. Less uncertainty and more shade.
