Texas was so close this season! We would be in the hunt for the National Championship if we just won 7 more games. This close.
In all seriousness, Auburn and Oregon deserve to have a shot at the national championship. And you know who else does? TCU. “Well then let’s just have a three-team playoff!” you say. Or maybe you didn’t say that because a three-team playoff is ridiculous. First of all, where are you going to find a three-sided football field? Qatar? Sure, they have one, but it’s not regulation size.
But is a playoff with 3 teams any more ridiculous than one with 2? Given the lack of opponent overlap in a single college football season, you just have to put more teams in a playoff. So below is our beautiful and wondrous (but mythical) December 18th*:
*CompuDrew takes the 6 highest-rated conference champions and the next two highest-rated teams, in that order.
Saturday, December 18th
College GameDay – 10 am ET (ESPN)
#5 Michigan State @ #4 TCU – 12 pm ET (ABC)
#8 Ohio State @ #1 Auburn – 3 pm ET (CBS)
#6 Boise State @ Oklahoma – 6 pm ET (ESPN)
#7 Stanford @ #2 Oregon – 9 pm ET (ABC)
Ugh, that would be so boring. The Big 10 champ versus undefeated TCU. Terrelle Pryor and Cam Newton. A rematch of one of the best games in history. And a defacto Pac-10 playoff, with Oregon hosting because they beat Stanford in the regular season.
Yawn. Call me when the Maaco Auto Parts Bowl is on ESPN3.
