It’s less than 90 minutes to kickoff and I can’t wait for Texas/Ohio State to get started. This is the my most anticipated game since…well, since Texas played USC in January for the national championship! And let’s not forget the other big game today: UC Davis vs. #21 TCU. TCU is the best opponent we’ve ever played, as we just recently moved to Division 1-AA. Okay, time for a college football preview:
I certainly can’t claim to know that much about college football, but I will say that my interest in the sport has risen exponentially since attending UTexas for grad school. It’s fun to support a team that is always up there in the national championship picture. And if anyone things that’s bandwagonry: I think you get a free pass if you attend the school or are an alumnus. It makes sense.
As for my primary alma mater, UC Davis, we completed one of the biggest upsets in college football with a 20-17 win over Stanford last September. I’ve been to many football games in my life, and I can say that I have never gone as crazy as I did after that last score. They are a force to be reckoned with in Division 1-AA. And they haven’t had a losing record since the 70’s. That’s ridiculous.
So with my limited knowledge of the sport, here are my 7 (somewhat safe) predictions for this season, as of September 9th:
1. Texas will play for the National Championship.
2. Notre Dame will lose two games and still get a BCS bid.
3. The ACC will go O-fer during the bowl season.
4. Nebraska will get a BCS bid.
5. UC Davis will win 8 games and finish in the D 1-AA Top 10.
6. West Virginia will lose their bowl game by at least 20.
7. The National Championship winner will not be undefeated at the end of the season.
I’ll revisit these on January 9th.
