Yeah, about that 10% Off Thing

I haven't posted a 10% Off update in a while. I'm on week 15 right now, and although some weight has been lost (I started in the low 190's and now I'm in the low 180's), I would have to lose three pounds a week for the next three weeks to reach my goal of 10% body weight loss. I would do it if food wasn't so delicious.

10% Off - Week 9 Update

Sorry I haven't updated in a while. Traveling didn't help the weight, but Easter--and the return to omnivorous gluttony, didn't raise the weigh-ins like I thought it would. My pace is not great (I want to keep it above .15 pounds a day) but it's not bad considering that I've only been exercising a few times a week.

This graph looks uglier for some reason.

10% Off - Week 6 Update

This is coming late because I've been in Austin since Wednesday, and I'm pretty sure that I might just skip the Week 7 Update altogether since I'll be on the East Coast until Saturday night.

A friend in Austin told me that my 10% Off challenge inspired her in some way to go down a dress size before graduation, so hooray for that!

10% Off - Week 5 Update

I'm watching the Subway commercial where the guy on the scale orders all this junk food and hiis weight goes up by like 60 pounds. Subtle.

10% Off - Week 4 Update

(This update is a few days late, but I'm still using the correct numbers from last Friday.)

Yesterday when I was talking to Heather about the plateau that I've hit, I said something to the effect of: I'm not satisfied by fasting food anymore (for you non-Copts, fasting for us during Lent means eating vegan). Heather called BS on that, and I realized that I am just being complacent at this point. If you look back to Week 3, the numbers were decreasing pretty sharply, and I'm pretty certain that I became too sure of myself. I convinced myself that it's easy. It's not, and I have to remember that.

10% Off - Week 3 Update

Not eating after dinner seems to be making a difference. This is running at a better pace than I expected (about a pound lost every 4.5 days), but I want to be careful about taking that projection line as a certainty--I still have 16 weeks to go.

10% Off - Week 2 Update

Even though I felt that I didn't eat very well the last few days, my first sub-190 weigh-in last night kept the projection right on track. I'm pretty sure I will gain a few pounds during Easter Week in mid-April, so I'm gonna work hard now to get ahead of schedule.

10% Off - Week 1 Update

See that "y = -0.1486x" part of the equation to the right? That's the average amount of pounds lost based on nightly weigh-ins. That's an average of 1.0402 pounds lost per week, which translates to 19.76 pounds dropped over 19 weeks, which is slightly better than my goal. I would say I'm right on track, except for two things: 1) this is based on only 6 weigh-ins, and 2) weight loss tends to flatten out after five or six weeks for me. We'll see what happens.

10% Off All Fat

(Get ready for a Super-Cliche blog post about someone else's potential attempts at losing weight. Read at your own risk of not being entertained.)

I am absolutely, fully, totally aware that weight is not the best indicator of body mass health. I also know that measurements like BMI are not tailored specifically for individuals, and they don't take things like muscle into account (actually, if you look the BMI of most professional athletes, they would be considered "overweight" because of the large amount of muscle that most pros have). I've heard from many experts that the best way to measure your body mass health is how well your clothes fit.

Well, I don't care. I like numbers. For example, this article is already 4 sentences too long. That's why the 10% Off Special starts this summer. It's a personal challenge that I'm looking forward to. I will take 10% off my body weight by June 21, which is 19.38 pounds. If I don't get 10% off by that date, I'll post a coupon that entitles you to one free 20-oz. bottle of Gatorade in Cupertino, CA. FREE GATORADE!

This would take me from "Fat" to just "Overweight" on the BMI chart, which is absolutely ridiculous.

Please feel free to join me over the next four months, whether you want to lose weight or gain it or whatever.

It's on like Donkey Kong. Who is pretty fat, by the way.
